Civic Alert Privacy Policy

CivicAlert is committed to protecting the privacy of its users. This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, and protected when using the CivicAlert mobile application.

1. About CivicAlert

CivicAlert supports inclusive disaster preparedness and community resilience by improving access to early warning information and strengthening awareness on disaster risks and safety actions within communities.

The application complements existing disaster management systems by promoting timely information sharing and community engagement.

CivicAlert is developed by Deaf Outreach Program with support from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).


2. Information We Collect

CivicAlert may collect the following information to provide its services:

Account Information

When creating an account, users may provide:

  • Name

  • Email address

  • Other optional profile details

Device Permissions

Camera Permission

CivicAlert may request access to the device camera in order to allow users to capture photos when reporting incidents, hazards, or community alerts.

The camera is only used when the user chooses to take a photo.


3. How We Use Information

Information collected through the app is used to:

  • Enable users to submit disaster alerts or reports

  • Improve community awareness and preparedness

  • Support communication related to safety alerts

  • Improve the functionality and reliability of the app


4. Data Sharing

CivicAlert does not sell or rent personal data to third parties.

Information may be shared only when necessary to:

  • Support disaster response coordination

  • Comply with legal requirements

  • Protect the safety of users and communities


5. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect user information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.

However, no system can guarantee absolute security.


6. User Control and Permissions

Users may choose whether to grant certain permissions such as camera access. These permissions can be changed at any time through device settings.


7. Account and Data Deletion

Users may request deletion of their account and associated data.

After verification, the account and associated data will be permanently deleted.
